Frequently Asked Questions

What can I expect at my initial consultation?

During the initial consultation, Mr. Link will ask various questions in order to gain a background for your case. For example, for a divorce case, you will be asked about the length of your marriage, the number of children you have, if any, the employment and earning history of both parties, and other questions relating to assets and liabilities. Thereafter, Mr. Link will discuss the law as it applied to your case and provide his opinion as to what steps should be taken.

What do I need to bring to my initial consultation?

If you have been served with any legal papers, those papers should be brought with you to the initial consultation. In addition, you should have an overall knowledge of the marital finances, assets and liabilities.

If I hire your firm, when will my case be filed?

We have a one-week-or-less turn around time from the date we are hired until the date your case is filed. In the event of an emergency, your case will be given priority status and your paperwork will be completed as soon as possible.

How long will it take my case to conclude?

Many factors determine the duration of a case, such as the case load and docket of the particular judge assigned to your case, the cooperativeness–or uncooperativeness–of the parties and their counsel and various other factors. On average, family law cases take from 6 to 9 months to conclude.

How much can I expect to spend on my case?

There is no way to predict how much or how little a case will cost. Much will depend on how long the case will take, whether or not expert witnesses will need to be hired on your behalf, the number of depositions to be taken, the amount of discovery to be conducted and the cooperativeness–or uncooperativeness–of the parties and their counsel.
